Ever-Changing Mantel

The fireplace mantel (if you have one) is a definite focal point of any room. Although I have no formal interior design training, I'm one of those people who has a "nesting" habit of moving things around in my house, experimenting with different looks, and placement. This habit of mine seems to focus on my fireplace mantel, as I am constantly shifting things around. So basically, I have an obsession with my mantel and that's in part because it's the only place in the house the kid's can't reach (or know not to!)
Here, in pictures, are some of the many changing personalities of my fireplace mantel.
I'm always looking in magazines, books and online for ideas but have yet to find a source strictly for mantel decor inspiration, therefore I have no idea what I am doing. As an update: I did find some online sources for mantel decorating including this pretty cool "three plus one" trick.
Seriously, there could be an entire book on this subject.
If you know of one--please share in my comment section below! Wishing you a great day...a day to enjoy the little things in life that make us smile.

I have one mantel that I can arrange and reading your post today made me realize mine is in a rut. I haven't done anything different except for the holidays! So I think I need to gather some ideas and spruce it up! Thank you for your ideas and the inspiration to just do it!

All of your mantel creations are fab. You fireplace is gorgeous too! We do not have a mantel at this house (weird round fireplace) and I miss it. I always loved moving stuff around non the mantel. Again...yours is beautiful!

I think my favorite is the red carnations and black and white birds...it has nothing to do with the fact that I love, red, black and white and carnations.

And I agree with the previous post. Sometimes its all about savoring the moments. I've come to enjoy reading a page and listening to my daughter reading a page to me.

I'm completely obsessed with my mantle and built-ins that surround it - we ARE so much alike, Caroline! My husband makes fun of me often because I like the change the look around. Loved the "Three Plus One" rule, too. Very interesting!

I Love(!) the red carnation/bird silhouette mantel! I can't wait to try something like that on my own mantel - we closed on our house last July and have yet to put a thing above our fireplace aside from a few Christmas decorations a little while ago.

I love, love, love, love, love your different mantle arrangements. Makes me long to have a fireplace with mantle ... like I did when I was growing up. So pretty. Thank you for sharing!
