Getting Festive with Foil: A 2011 Garland (Made from Aluminum Foil)

Making an Aluminum Foil Garland

It's a tradition around here to make a "Happy New Year" garland for our mantle and this year was no exception. I've had this idea for awhile about making a garland using aluminum foil, which is a favorite old-fashioned decorating material. Foil is shiny and accessible, malleable and unexpected. It was the perfect choice. Plus, I can take it down, crumble it into a ball and toss it in our recycling bin.

We embellished our homemade garland with decorative muffin cups, turned inside out and fringed to make flowers using little pom-poms from the Dollar Store for the center. I used double-sided tape to attach everything including the flowers and pom-pom centers.
I'll have a full How To on my tutorial site by Monday.

Happy New Year!!!

For auld lang syne, my dear,
   For auld lang syne.
   We'll take a cup o' kindness yet,
   For auld lang syne.
